PropTech Denmark pulls new innovative building certification to Denmark
A new international Smart Building Certification hits the Danish market in collaboration with PropTech Denmark.
The new certificate will award the most intelligent buildings in the country and help the industry operate smarter, healthier, more productive, and sustainable buildings.
More than a badge
‘Smart Building Certification’ (SBC) is a newly established international certification that not only awards the most intelligent solutions in property but also helps spot untapped potential for increased performance and opportunities for new business models. Soon, Danish real estate projects and companies will have the opportunity to become part of the fastest-growing international ecosystem for smart buildings.
The certification not only looks at the individual solutions implemented in the building but also at how the building generally uses both solution and data in everyday operations, in how the building is actually used by people, and the building's relation to the surrounding natural and built environment. PropTech Denmark looks forward to exploring this more holistic approach to property than the traditional certifications currently available on the Danish market:
“We see this as the natural next step in certifications for sustainability and smart solutions. Instead of looking at the solutions in isolation, Smart Building Certification allows us to look at the overall performance of the buildings and how the solutions are actually used and perform as a whole. In other words, we can now think of buildings as a platform for sustainability, communities, services for the people who live there, and other brand new business models which drive better use of buildings as a resource than we have seen before." – Nadim Stub, former Managing Director of PropTech Denmark.
Where a classic certification is just a seal of approval for a building, project, or company, SBC invites its users into a fast-growing ecosystem that provides a range of tools to become ‘smarter’. Be it education, guides or new knowledge developed in collaboration with prominent academic institutions. In addition, the certification offers several options for documentation of the building's performance. All in all, an exciting new opportunity to work holistically with the building, which can optimize operations, create better user experiences, and position the project in the market; especially in the light of new demands for transparent sustainable building operations from politicians, end-users, and as we start to see, financial institutes.
Quantifying the overall performance has financial value
The SBC issued its first highest ranked platinum certificate to the Dutch property project EDGE Olympic Amsterdam. The building not only scored high on smart solutions but on a range of touchpoints by the people who operate and use the space. A new way to quantify sustainable and smart property performance with the potential to have direct impact on a building's valuation:
“We see the value in smart buildings and have been working for some time to incorporate smart in our process. Solutions like SBC can help enable increased valuations by quantifying the added value of the building.” – Hein Wegdam, Director of Sustainable & Innovative Real Estate Products at the Dutch Financial Institute, ING.
The world can learn from the Danish market
We know that Danish homes are becoming more and more intelligent (Danish Statistics) and that interest in intelligent solutions in the real estate industry is increasing. We also know that Denmark is ambitious on climate issues and sustainable real estate. Co-founder and Head of Strategy & Operations at SBC, Nicolas White, sees great potential in this combination:
"We are delighted to have PropTech Denmark as our guide into the Danish market. Their expertise, network, and unrelenting focus on practical results, makes for a perfect partnership for Smart Building Certification. We are particularly excited by the Danish market as they are front runners in the space of real estate finance, property technology, and truly building sustainable buildings. The world can learn a lot from the Danes, and we plan on helping that happen." – Nicholas White, Head of Strategy and Operations at SBC.
At PropTech Denmark, we are also looking forward to the collaboration, inviting our members to a kick-off event with Smart Building Certification on November 25th at PropTech LAB in BloxHub:
