PropTech Denmark has received funding from Realdania for carrying out a feasibility study on how a Danish proptech living lab can be established and organized. The aim of the project is to create the needed foundation for launching a living lab in 2022 - both in terms of finding the right set-up, location, engaging potential partners, and investigating funding possibilities.

A proptech living lab can help accelerate a much-needed digital transformation in real estate

The main aim of establishing a proptech living lab will be to help accelerate the digital transformation of the real estate sector in Denmark. This is much needed in order to enhance sustainability and in general to improve how we live and work. Finally, a digital fit real estate sector and a thriving proptech ecosystem will contribute in keeping and creating jobs in Denmark. A living lab can contribute to this in two ways.

First of all, we need space and property, where we can showcase to the established real estate players how already existing proptech solutions can be used in praxis and what value it creates for users and real estate owners and operators.

Secondly, a proptech living lab should offer a sandbox environment, where proptech startups and SME’s can develop, test, and finetune their solutions in a ‘real’ and ‘living’ environment – but without endangering the daily operations of the entire building.

The BLOX-building could be a dream scenario for a proptech living lab

The feasibility study will have a special focus on the possibilities of establishing the living lab in the BLOX building. PropTech Denmark’s secretariat and coworking space for proptech startups is already placed in the Blox building. Next to this, Blox is also home for organisations such as Bloxhub, Danish Architecture Centre and Danish Design Centre. In this Blox is way already meant to be the epicenter for showcasing Danish competencies within real estate, construction, architecture, and human centered sustainable urbanism.

In the coming months, PropTech Denmark will investigate the opportunities for establishing a proptech lab in Denmark. We will do this in close collaboration with BloxHub and Realdania By og Byg, but we will naturally also reach out to many other real estate - and proptech actors in our community
